Correctional Facilities & Public Buildings

  • Clinton Community Center, Clinton, Missouri                                                The project included HVAC, plumbing, electrical lighting and power, fire protection, and site lighting for a new 33,000 SF, two-story community center that includes a gymnasium, toilet and locker rooms, meeting rooms, exercise areas and interstitial jogging track. The HVAC design consisted of packaged rooftop units with heat recovery section, DX cooling, and electric heat. The electrical design included a 600 amp, 277/480 volt service. Fire protection was provided to meet NFPA and local authority requirements.

  • Fire and Medical Station, Lawrence, Kansas
    This project was an 11,650 SF building with three Apparatus Bays, twelve bedrooms, a Kitchen/Dining/Living area, Exercise Room, as well as a Station Office and Support Spaces. Plumbing design included all hot and cold water distribution layout as well as waste and vent piping systems, including oil and sand separators. Hot water was sized for multiple showers as well as laundry, kitchen and decontamination use. HVAC systems utilized packaged rooftop units to heat and cool the spaces and provide zone control. Separate exhaust systems were provided for the Kitchen, Toilets/Locker Rooms, Laundry, Decontamination Room, and The Apparatus Bays. Low density infrared radiant heaters were used to warm the Apparatus Bays during cold weather. Electrical systems included energy efficient T-8 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent downlights. Fire station was tied into a central dispatch center for alarm calls. Provisions for an emergency generator was provided to serve critical loads.

  • Fire Station No. 3, Leawood, Kansas
    This project was a 14,100 SF building with three Apparatus Bays, eight Dorm Rooms, a Kitchen/Dining area, Training Room, as well as Offices for Fire Marshall, Fire Prevention, Police, and Support Spaces. Plumbing design included all hot and cold water distribution layout as well as waste and vent piping systems, including oil and sand separators. Hot water was sized for multiple showers as well as laundry, kitchen and decontamination use. HVAC systems utilized packaged rooftop units to heat and cool the spaces and provide zone control. Separate exhaust systems were provided for the Kitchen, Toilets/Locker Rooms, Laundry, Decontamination Room, and the Apparatus Bays.   • Remodeling projects as part of an Indefinite Delivery Contract for the USPS at facilities in Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City, Kansas
    This is an indefinite quantity contract with a contract maximum amount of $1,000,000 and an annual maximum of $250,000. This project covers US Postal facilities in the Kansas and Missouri district. Projects to date include renovation of approximately 5,000 sq. ft. at the Wichita Bulk Mailing Facility which involved the addition of a new roof top air handling unit along with duct work and grilles and diffusers to condition the space. In addition, lighting was revised as well as the fire protection system. Another project was to add an additional 3,000 amp switchboard at the Topeka Bulk Mail Facility. Three additional projects at the Kansas City, Kansas Bulk Mail Facility involved the remodel of 2 toilet areas to meet federal accessibility and ADA requirements, replacement of packaged computer room air conditioning units and dry coolers with new and to remove and replace two 900 ton cooling towers from the roof of the present facility.

  • Addition and Remodeling to Fire Station #25, Kansas City, Missouri
    The project involved a remodel of an existing fire station and addition. The remodel portion included new heating, ventilation and lighting in the truck bay. The addition included sleeping quarters, showers and kitchen facilities. Existing offices and the new addition were provided with new air conditioning along with new lighting.

  • Fire Safety and HVAC Repairs, Boonville Correctional Center, Boonville, Missouri
    This project consisted of the addition of new fire alarm systems in approximately 18 buildings and tying them all together on a common backbone for reporting to a Central Command Center located at the Main entrance gate. Addressable devices were used to determine the origin of any alarms quicker. In addition, wet pipe fire protection systems were added to approximately 15 buildings housing inmates for property protection. This work included new distribution piping to the building from the campus water distribution system along with DNR required backflow preventers.

    A separate project at this facility added new air conditioning equipment to four inmate dormitories consisting of either packaged ground mounted units with exterior ductwork up the outside of the building to serve the floors or by the use of split systems with the indoor unit being located in an Equipment Room and the condensing unit placed outside on concrete pads. Separately, fan coil units and an air cooled chiller were replaced at the Chapel and the existing steam distribution system was modified to provide additional heat via a heat exchanger to the fan coil units.

  • Police Academy/Justice Center, Overland Park, Kansas
    This project was a 12,000 SF stand alone single story building located on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. The building housed training classrooms and Administrative Offices for the Overland Park Police Department. Plumbing design included all hot and cold water distribution, shower facilities, waste and vent piping systems. HVAC system utilized a direct expansion split system with VAV air distribution. Air handling unit design incorporated an air-to-air heat exchanger. Individual space control was provided by utilizing series fan powered VAV boxes complete with electrical reheat. Electrical systems included energy efficient T-8 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent downlights. Systems design included voice/data coordination, fire alarm system, and power distribution.
